The lymphatic system plays an important role in the body’s immune system and helps maintain proper circulation and body fluid balance. Lymph fluid bathes the tissues as interstitial fluid, collecting waste products, bacteria, and damaged cells which then drains as lymph into the lymphatic capillaries and vessels. These vessels carry the lymph throughout the body.
The lymphatic system is the housekeeper of the body. It removes waste and toxins from the body’s cells and tissues. Imagine if you stopped taking out the garbage and let it pileup inside your home. You would soon have trouble functioning in that space. That is the difficulty the body encounters when the lymphatic system becomes sluggish and could use some support. That sluggishness could lead to degeneration, compromised immune system and disease.
Developed by Danish physiologist Emil Vodder in 1932, the purpose of lymphatic massage is to stimulate and open the lymphatic glands for an increased flow of lymph which allows detoxification to rid the body of excess waste.
Studies also show it is very effective for pre and post surgery procedures as it accelerates the healing process.
When you receive a lymphatic massage the lymph system draws the waste for detoxification. The draw lasts about a week. When you have a massage once a week for several weeks that draw will continue over that allowing the body to recover, heal and strengthen.
Lymph fluid bathes the tissues as interstitial fluid, collecting waste products, bacteria, and damaged cells, and then drains as lymph into the lymphatic capillaries and lymphatic vessels. These vessels carry the lymph throughout the body, passing through numerous lymph nodes which filter out bacteria, damaged cells, waste and trapped blood proteins.
