What a session is

Soft touch, and a lot of listening

It is energy work using a very light touch. I hold your feet, head or sacrum and listen to the subtle rhythms underneath.

That listening is most of the work. Restrictions can release on their own once they are met with attention rather than force, and the body's systems tend to function together a little more easily afterwards.

Sessions are quiet. Most people find them deeply restful, and a fair number fall asleep on the table. It is the gentlest thing I offer.

What is being worked with

The craniosacral system

A closed, fluid-filled system running from the skull to the base of the spine. It includes more than most people expect.

  • The brain
  • The cerebrospinal fluid
  • The membranes inside the cranium
  • All twenty-two cranial bones
  • The spine
  • The sacrum
Where it comes from

Cranial osteopathy, and a long argument about bones

Introduced in the 1930s

CranioSacral work grew out of cranial osteopathy, a specialisation within the osteopathic profession introduced in the 1930s by the American osteopath William Garner Sutherland.

Sutherland's starting point was the observation that the cranial bones are not one fused block — that the sutures between them allow a small amount of movement. That was a contested idea at the time, and it remains debated. What is not in question is that people find the sessions restful.

Why it pairs well with hypnosis

Both work by lowering the noise rather than pushing against it. Clients often book a CranioSacral session alongside hypnosis when they are working on something that seems to live in the body as much as the mind. If that describes you, say so at the consultation and we can plan the order.

What this is, and is not

This is a complementary service for relaxation and personal development. It is not medical or psychological treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a licensed clinician.

If you are managing a diagnosed condition, please keep your treating clinician in the loop.

What to wear and bring

You stay fully clothed on the table, so loose, soft clothing is best. Bring water, and skip a heavy meal beforehand. Leave yourself a little room afterwards rather than going straight into something demanding.

Results vary

How people respond differs from person to person. Nothing here is a promise of a specific outcome.

Restrictions tend to let go when they are met with attention rather than force. Most of this work is listening.
